Financial Times ranks Master of Finance 4th in U.S.

In its latest ranking of global master’s in finance programs, Financial Times has ranked the Freeman School’s Master of Finance program 26th in the world and fourth among programs in the United States. Freeman was ranked in the category of preexperience programs, which refer to programs targeted at new or recent graduates.

McDonald’s Exec Describes Chain’s Revitalization

If you’re like most people, you probably don’t remember McDonald’s short-lived experiment with 55-cent Big Macs, but to Neil Golden, chief marketing officer of McDonald’s USA, the ill-fated 1997 price promotion is a bitter reminder of everything that had gone wrong at the Golden Arches.

New Dean Plans to Connect with the Community

Ira Solomon thinks business schools should do more to address societal issues, and the newly appointed dean of the Freeman School thinks Tulane University is just the place to take on that challenge. “I like the strategic direction I see the campus going,” says Solomon, “and I think the Freeman School is well positioned to move in that direction.”

Freeman takes top honors in Finance Case Competition

A team made up of Freeman MBA students Vivek Sharma, Jason Costa, Arnab Dasgupta and Anthony Elia won first place and a grand prize of $5,000 at the 15th annual Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence Finance Case Competition. This year’s competition took place at the Freeman School on April 1, 2011.

A team of Freeman School MBAs won first place and a prize of $5,000 at the National Association of Women MBAs Strategy Case Competition. The final round of the contest took place on March 23 in Newark, N.J., at the corporate headquarters of PSEG, sponsor of this year’s competition.

The Freeman School honored Albert R. Lepage, chairman of Lepage Bakeries Inc., as Tulane Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year and Phyllis E. Cassidy, executive director and founder of Good Work Network, as Tulane Social Entrepreneur of the Year at its annual Tulane Council of Entrepreneurs Awards Gala.

MBA team one of three national finalists in marketing contest

When Barnes & Noble announced a nationwide marketing plan contest to help promote Nook Study, its new digital textbook reading software, a team of Tulane marketing students stepped up to the challenge, developing a set of tactics that earned them one of three finalist slots and a trip to New York to present their recommendations at Barnes & Noble headquarters.

Tulane partners with EMI and CME to launch energy trading courses

This fall, the Freeman School is teaming up with EMI and CME Group to offer a new series of courses for energy and trading professionals in New Orleans, Chicago and Houston. The seminars will cover industry fundamentals, the latest electronic trading software and simulations, and advanced trading strategies that businesses can use to maximize value and manage risk.

Freeman Days takes over National WWII Museum

In February, the Freeman School hosted its annual Freeman Days Networking Reception at the National World War II Museum’s Stage Door Canteen. The school’s biggest annual career event, Freeman Days brings together students, alumni and corporate recruiters for an evening of professional networking followed by a day of company presentations and information sessions on campus.

MatchNOLA was established to meet the needs of the city’s entrepreneurial community while providing hands-on experience for students interested in starting their own businesses.

Medical device wins top prize at Biz Plan Competition

For more than 250,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year, lumpectomy surgery offers a less disfiguring, less traumatic alternative to mastectomy, but breast-conserving procedures have traditionally been less effective than mastectomies. Pathostat hopes to change that with a new medical device technology that makes the analysis of tumors faster and more accurate, and for that innovation, the company earned the grand prize of $50,000 at this year’s Tulane Business Plan Competition.

Social media is the message for employers

Like a lot of recent graduates, Matt Wesson (BSM ’11) talked up his experience using social media when he was interviewing for jobs, but Wesson had something most other candidates lacked: Business school training. Wesson was a student in MCOM Social Media, the Freeman School’s first course dedicated to the use of social media in a business context. According to Wesson, the class helped give him an edge with recruiters when he was interviewing for a job with an Atlanta software company.
