Peter Callais

Peter W. Callais (BSM ’86), CEO of Abdon Callais Offshore in Golden Meadow, La., died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Nov. 2, 2008. He was 44.

A native of Golden Meadow and a resident of Cut Off, La., Callais was a respected member of the local business community. He served on the board of directors and as secretary of Community Bank in Raceland and on the board of directors of Solid Waste Disposal Inc. in Houma. He was the 2000 chairman of the Chamber of Lafourche and Bayou Region, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development’s 1999 Small Business Person of the Year for District Three, and a 2001 Louisiana and Mississippi Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. His business had also been listed among the 500 Fastest Growing Companies in America in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2007.

He was also very involved with Tulane University and, along with his brother, Paul, had been an active member of the Tulane Family Business Center for many years. Paul Callais died tragically in a boating accident in July 2008.

Callais is survived by his wife, Monica Williams Callais; his mother, Gloria Bienvenu Callais; three sons, Justin, Isaac and Noah; and two brothers, Charles Michael Callais and Corey Joseph Callais. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Joseph Callais; his grandparents, Abdon Callais and Ada Bruce Callais, and C. Thomas Bienvenu Sr. and Isaure Blanchard Bienvenu; and his brother Paul.
