In Memoriam: DuVal F. Dickey (BBA ’39)

DuVal F. Dickey

The A. B. Freeman School of Business salutes DuVal Frederick Dickey (June 16, 1916-October 13, 2010), alumnus and long-time Freeman supporter. A native New Orleanian, Mr. Dickey graduated from Tulane University in 1939, where he wasvice president of his class and a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. In the summer of 1942, he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy and that September, married Margaret Stewart, the love of his life. After serving in WWII, Mr. Dickey returned to his employer, Standard Oil Co., where he served in several key marketing roles and later became vice president of marketing for Humble Oil (later to become Exxon USA) in Houston. In his career, Mr. Dickey was honored by the American Petroleum Institute, was listed in “Who’s Who in America,” and received the Freeman School’s Outstanding Alumnus Award. He also served on the President’s Council of Tulane. Mr. Dickey leaves behind his devoted wife, Margaret, son DuVal Jr., daughter Virginia (Ginger) Nelson, and a host of family and friends.
