Few faculty members have contributed more to the growth and development of the Freeman School than John M. Trapani III.
Over the course of his 29- year career as a teacher, scholar and administrator, Trapani, the Jessica L. Streiffer and Edward L. Streiffer Chair in International Finance, has impacted virtually every facet of the school and its programs. As senior associate dean, vice dean and director of the Goldring Institute of International Business, Trapani led efforts to extend the global reach of the business school, expanding Freeman into more than 20 countries with innovative programs like the Master of Global Management and the Latin American faculty development PhD, new study abroad options for undergraduates, and international travel requirements for MBA and executive MBA students. In the classroom, Trapani established a reputation as an outstanding teacher who combines expertise in his subject matter with a patient, engaging style.
To honor Trapani’s long-lasting impact on the business school, two alumni—Dave Sislen (BSM ’76) and Stacey Berger (BSM ’76, MBA ’78)—have initiated a fund to endow the John M. Trapani III Professorship in Business. Earnings on the fund will be utilized on an annual basis to provide financial support to outstanding young faculty members.
“Professor Trapani instilled in me much more than the fundamentals of micro- and macroeconomics,” says Sislen. “He gave me the tools that enabled me to satisfy my innate curiosity about how the world works and why. I’m forever grateful to him for providing me with those tools.”
