In July, Freeman School Master of Management in Energy students visited Breton Sound #51, an offshore production platform in the Gulf of Mexico operated by independent oil and gas company Upstream Exploration. Accompanied by Eric Smith, professor of practice and interim director of the Tulane Energy Institute, the students received a briefing from company executives Michael Willis (MBA ’96) and Harvey Kelley and then boarded an Upstream crew boat for the 60 minute journey to the platform. Once there, they toured the facility to get a firsthand view of physical oil and gas production and operating techniques.
