Peter Ricchiuti founds Freeman Reports, a non-credit equity analysis program that initially features 16 students covering six Louisiana public companies. The program would eventually be renamed Burkenroad Reports.
1995
Borden Chemical Inc. is acquired by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., becoming the first Burkenroad company to be bought out.
The Wall Street Journal becomes the first national publication to profile Burkenroad Reports.
1996
The inaugural Burkenroad Reports Investment Conference is held. Senior management from 18 Burkenroad companies attend the conference to deliver presentations to an audience of institutional and private investors.
1997
The Chronicle of Higher Education highlights Burkenroad Reports.
1998
Freeman Reports is renamed Burkenroad Reports in recognition of a gift from Jane Burkenroad Bories (N ’51), Peggy Burkenroad Selber (N ’53) and Aaron Selber Jr. (BBA ’50) in honor of William B. Burkenroad Jr. (BBA ’23), former chairman and CEO of J. Aron & Co., one of the nation’s leading coffee importers.
1999
Burkenroad Reports is profiled in The New York Times.
2000
KLLM Transport Services is acquired by High Road Acquisition Corp., becoming the 10th Burkenroad company to be bought out since the program’s inception.
2001
In April, Ravi Suria (MBA ’95), managing director of Duquesne Capital Management, receives the inaugural Rising Tide Award. The award, presented annually at the Burkenroad Reports Investment Conference, recognizes outstanding young alumni in the investment field. With partial funding from the Inter-American Development Bank, the Freeman School launches
Burkenroad Reports for Latin America, a satellite program that focuses on Latin American companies. The research is conducted by doctoral students in the Freeman School’s Latin American Faculty Development PhD program.
In December, Hancock Horizon Investments, a unit of Hancock Whitney Bank, launches the Hancock Horizon Burkenroad Small Cap Fund, a mutual fund inspired by the Burkenroad program that uses its investment reports as a primary source of research.
2003
FORTUNE magazine highlights Burkenroad Reports.
Burkenroad Reports is featured on the nationally broadcast PBS show “Wall Street Week.”
The Burkenroad Report, a weekly business news segment produced by the Freeman School and hosted by Peter Ricchiuti, debuts on the WWL-TV “Morning Show.” The report, which was later hosted by Mark Rosa and Kurt Gerwitz, would air on the Morning Show for nearly 15 years.
